Step-by-Step Guide
Start to finish, here’s how you’ll move through the real estate registration process in Ontario.
Pre-Registration
( Education & Exams )
You have up to 24 months from the day your begin your first course to complete the pre-registration phase before applying for registration with RECO.
- 5 core courses (covering residential and commercial real estate)
- 2 simulation sessions (hands-on training with role-playing exercises)
- 6 Exams
Registration with RECO
( Licensing Step )
You have finished your registration education and passed your exams. Now you have 1 year to complete the registration process, which includes:
- Apply for registration with Real Estate Council of Ontario
- Meet the requirements for background checks and registration fees
- Become employed as a real estate salesperson under a registered brokerage
Post-Registration
(Career Development)
During your first two years, you must complete extra courses to renew your license—this is also when you can start to specialize.
- Complete the mandatory post-registration compliance course
- Complete 2 of the 5 professional development electives
