CONSTRUCTION & MAINTENANCE ELECTRICIAN

PRE-APPRENTICESHIP • DIPLOMA PROGRAM • TOTAL HOURS: 600 HOURS

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

This program will provide students with a thorough hands-on and theoretical education in the residential, commercial and industrial electricity fields. The program has been designed to provide our students with the right balance of practical skills and theoretical knowledge to excel as an apprentice.

While attending the program, students will develop practical skills in residential wiring, service installation, code interpretation, conduit bending, print reading, and the principles of electricity.

 

Upon graduation students will be well-suited to enter the following occupations: Electrical Control Assembler, Electrical Instrument Repairer, Electrical Technician, Electrical Distribution, Apprentice Electrician, and Electrical Service Technician.

PROGRAM PREREQUISITE

» Gr.12 OSSD or Mature Student Status
» Successful completion of entrance evaluation
» Admissions Interview
» English Proficiency

PROGRAM LENGTH

(30 WEEKS, 600 HOURS)
The CME program is divided into 5 modules of theory and skills training. This program has been specially designed so that students may begin their training at the start of any module and establish their CME career earlier. Please see your enrollment agreement for specific days of the week and hours per day.

TUITION & FINANCIAL AID

All tuition costs include books, exam fees, tool kit and uniforms. Financial assistance may be available for those who qualify. Students are encouraged to visit our Business Affairs department for any questions related to tuition and/or financial aid.

BASIC ELECTRICAL THEORY

This program is designed to teach the student the basics of electricity necessary for entry level; it also covers basic electrical safety, mathematics necessary for calculations used in electrical technology, review those aspects of the CEC that pertain to the basic interpretation of the Canadian Electrical Code.

ELECTRICITY PRINCIPLES AND APPLICATIONS

This module is designed to review those aspects of Electrical Fundamentals associated with the Electrical Trade and to review respectively associated aspects of the Canadian Electrical Code.

RESIDENTIAL WIRING SERVICES AND CIRCUIT LOADING

This program is designed to review different aspects associated with residential services including calculating equipment sizing and circuit loading.

ELECTRICAL WIRING – COMMERCIAL AND INSTRUMENTATION

This course is designed to review different writing methods for conduits, tubing and bends as it relates to Commercial and Instrumentation as well as the Canadian Electrical Code.

SAFETY & WHMIS

The course covers safety from various perspectives: personal safety rules and protective gear, government acts and regulations, information on the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System, and fire practices.

THE PACIFIC INSTITUTE – MASTERING THE ATTITUDES OF SUCCESS (TPI-MAS)

TPI-MAS helps students recognize the choices they have in life and how to control how they think to change the way they live their lives. Students will understand how the human mind works and how their beliefs and attitudes influence the present and shape the future. The program encourages students to have a positive outlook and strive for goals despite any challenges and obstacles.
